Matariki is a cluster of stars commonly known around the world as the Pleiades. The stars of Matariki were observed individually and as a group, and predictions were made about the upcoming year based on how they appeared in the sky. The rise of Matariki marks the start of the Maori new year. This little craft set is a great way to teach your tamariki about Matariki.

This unique design was created by New Zealand Maori illustrator Isobel Te Aho-White. Isobel expresses herself and her heritage through a variety of artistis mediums both digital and traditional. She is a decendant of Ngai Tahu and Ngati Kahungungu ki te Wairoa.
