Kara The Kakapo Book

No matter how hard she tries, Kara the Kākāpō just can’t seem to master the art of flying. With optimism, determination and a little creative thinking, can Kara still achieve her dream? This gorgeous story in a small way reflects the real life struggles of the incredible kākāpō, a species found only in Aotearoa New Zealand. The kākāpō went from virtual extinction to a small breeding population, following intensive conservation efforts to breed from just a few pairs found in the wild in the 1970s. It was thought they had disappeared forever in the 1930s. Kākāpō are today still critically endangered and can be found living in predator-free parts of New Zealand, such as Kāpiti and Maud Islands.
